2000 corolla rear shocks

I just finished putting in kyb gr2 shocks. I just have a question about the rear shocks. There is a spacer on the rear shocks. my question does this spacer go between the large nut and top on the strut cap. Or under the cap that the top of the spring seats into. I put this spacer under the cap, and now it looks wrong to me. I will change it if this is wrong. Will this hurt the performance of the shock until I can make this change?

thanks

Jerry

By the sounds of it your talking about the coil insulator.

That rubber part sits on the bottom of the spring and on top of the strut mount. Should fit in perfectly.

These cars are not equipped with shocks. They're equipped with struts -- the terms are not interchangable.

Anyway, that gripe aside, I agree with the previous poster. It sounds like the seat insulator. The front and rear struts have two -- one for the top and one for the bottom. The top and bottom are slightly different but generally they look something like this:

Assuming that's what you're talking about, the ends of the coil fit into the grooves in the insulators which in turn fit into the grooves in the coil seats.

As a note, the upper seat has either "F" or "OUT" with an arrow indicating which way it should be positioned on the strut assembly when all put back together. Be sure that it's positioned so that, when installed, it points outward from the vehicle.

Sounds like you got it. Thinking back when I did my own rear struts, should be when assembling from bottom to top:

- strut itself
- lower spring insulator (rubber)
- coil spring
- rubber bellow and rubber/foam spring bump stop
- upper spring isolator (could be inside the top suspension support plate)
- top suspension support plate (the part that has three studs on it)
- metal collar
- big nut

NOTE: This completes the strut assembly, from there, up through the three holes in the body, three little nuts, plastic cap.
