Question Corolla GS speakers?

Hi,

I think I blew my two rear speakers recently, when the volume suddenly jumped from an mp3 player to the default radio setting, which was WAY too loud

Anyway, now I have two fuzzy-sounding rear speakers - the front door speakers are ok.

Why are the fronts ok? I think I set the volume balance to the rear of the car many, many moons ago and there it remained, so those were the speakers which blew; either that or the rear speakers channel more bass than the forward speakers, so that also blew them when the volume peaked

What is the low down on replacing speakers please - are there recommended speakers for the GS - are there 'bass' speakers for a 4 speaker set up, or are all 4 speakers exactly the same?

Thanks,

Ric

Could have been faulty speakers in the back and it was just a matter of time. Or you deck could randomly switch settings on you. That happened to me once for some reason although mine was an aftermarket deck.

I installed Apline speakers in all four and the bass is great on them. I got the Apline that had the tweeter sitting just above the main speaker which I think helps seperate the treble and bass and gives you a great sound. They are called two way speakers I believe and strongly recommand them. Great product with great sound.

The rears are extremely easy to install I find. Just have to fold all the seats in the back, pop a couple of interior covers off and unbolt the cover and your at them. They also clearly mark the negative and position feeds. I can't remember the size that you need to fit back there but I think they are around the 6.5" or so. Again I could be wrong just ask a guy at Bestbuy or google it. Also I am pretty sure that all four speakers are that size.

Exclamation Thanks :)

Thanks, this is helpful.

I hiked off both rear covers the other day - plastic pop-off covers - to try to spot the problem. Both speakers look great, no cracks or ruptures. Then I noticed the sound had improved 90% on removing the covers! So I'm leaving 'em off!

There is a mild distortion on the bass (sort of tail-off effect) but not the 'fuzz box' racket I was getting a week ago. Now the inherent distortion might be the tape deck / adaptor. The adaptor tends to generate background noise even when there is no mp3 plugged into it.

But a big improvement nonetheless.

good to see that helped the problem.

I found that after I replaced the back speakers there was a foam padding around the black plastic casing the speaker sits in, which was held on by glue. Well after 10 year of heat in the summer it pretty much just fell off. I was getting some extra rattle noise in the back when I would turn up my music do to the black plastic vibrating against the metal.

I did a cheap fix on this but you can't see it once the cover is back on. I just took a rag and ripped it up then placed it on top of the metal around the hole where the black plastic speaker holder sits on and tightened it back up nice and tight. Fixed any extra noise I was getting from the back. Seems to work for me. Don't know if you have this problem though. I should like a hobo with this cheap fix up but it did the job and wasted some free time.

Thumbs up

Thanks Kyle,

What's the heads up on leaving the plastic covers off though? Obviously more dust on the diaphragm, but dust was getting in there anyway through the plastic grill.

I wouldn't worry about it to much. Just don't drive on construction sites with your windows down haha. I would keep an eye on it though. Give it a quick vacume every now and then maybe.
