I replaced mine at 190,000km. If you don't mind the ride I guess. Although it will have an effect on tire wear if you don't.
Personally I couldn't take the bad handeling of a car once they start to go. It makes a huge difference on taking corners, driving in winter since the tires don't bounce a lot. Actually come to think of it it's pretty unsafe if they have been on that long. Your trackion can't be good at all. And those tests that they go through are complete ****. They don't have strict enough tests. You could probably put 400,000km on a suspension unit and it would "pass" a so called safety test.
I have a 2000 with 215000 miles and am just replacing the struts for the first time. No leaking and passed the bounce test( those were NOT a good indicator of strut wear)but vibration at freeway speeds, bottoming out and uneven tire wear told me they were bad. Also the strut mounts were making noise( bad bearings), clunking and rattling over bumps.
When I removed them, the strut rods could be pushed in with almost no force.I was just riding on the springs.
I just replaced the ones in my wife's 2001 with 230,000 km, and they were overdue. It handles much better now, only partly because I upgraded to Tokico HP's. As in your case, there was no leakage, they seemed OK on a bounce test but the car was getting noticably unstable in corners.
On another note, when you get this done you should also replace :
-Sway Bar
-End Links
Check you trail arm bushings too. After the suspension is done you should have already booked a wheel alignment appointment because you car won't be sagging like it is right now. A wheel alignment is a must must must.

I will get them done soon, I plan to keep the car for another 4 years at least. Still runs very good, uses hardly any oil and has no rust.
The sway bar itself isnt a wear item, and wont need to be replaced. The bushings and endlinks, yes.
I replaced my struts at 90k miles. I passed the bounce test no problem. I had 1 strut leaking, but that strut still provided something. My front right strut wasnt leaking, and when I took it off the spring, there was NO tension in the rod.
I have 170k miles on mine and seem ok. tires are wearing out evenly, they dont bottom out and pass bounce test. just gotta raise the car to test for leaks.
106,500 miles on my Corolla, and I still have my original rear struts. Being that I live in pothole, manhole, and sinkhole city, I had to change the fronts recently. It got WAY too bouncy lol.
I changed mine around 125,000 miles, they were way bouncy on the fwy and replaced all 4. Got some tokico which are a little stiffer but are great so far.
263K miles on my 99. I do need new struts & have rattles on all four corners w the sway bar ends. I could also use new steelies, everyone is out of round & has a vibration, even though I put on new tires & had them balanced.
This was a really bad winter for big deep chuckholes here in NE Oh!
