trany issues need help and advice (5 speed manual)

so i bought the car a month ago and noted it had a small leak in the trans (5 speed manual) so last weekend i decided to put new fluid in it or at least check the fluid level. open the filler like i read some where on here (to open that first to make sure its not stuck) then opened the drain and only 6 oz came out. i know this because i poured this into an empty differential bottle, boy does used differential fluid or even burnt smell terrible that smell made me gag a couple of times. any way i pour new fluid in and a couple days later the seal is basically pouring fluid out. this is the drivers side seal and was wanting help on how do i replace it?

I'm assuming it's the axle seal that's leaking, where the CV shaft goes inot the transaxle? If so, you have to disconnect the spindle, remove the c/v shaft, and replace the seal. Don't put it off, or you will destroy the transmission from lack of oil. If there are no unusual noises or any amount of filings in the oil, the transaxle may be fine.

Good advice , dont put it off. You will need basic tools and a manual. Its not hard do do ,but it is a bit of work. Be very careful when you pull the old seal( assuming thats what it is) and use a seal puller so you dont scratch the seal bore on the trans, or you will have another leak.

yes you are correct it is where the cv enters the transmission. i cant really do it for a few more days to a week at max but im going on a trip soon i know i must have it done before then. i was really looking for how do i take the cv out from the tranny anything before that or after that isnt an issue. im trying to save 25 dollars on the manual so i will have enough money.. if i read right i need to disconnect the spindle from the wheel hub the pull strait out on the cv? i was surprised to see no shavings, but i did notice a decrease in gas millage thou when the fluid was added.

A manual is the best, cheapest tool you can buy. It will save you that $25 over and over in time, and mistakes you will make without it. Look for free manuals on line. Dont just pull on the outer CV joint or shaft you can damage the joints.Pry inbetween the trans and the inner CV joint with a crowbar or any pry tools that will work without damaging anything.
