I was just wondering how hot can the brake calipers get and how hot the rear drum can get too before i paint them.

And besides i dont see any topics about painting them.

Not sure how many degrees they get, but as I'm sure you know, there is paint out there specifically made for disk calipers that can tolerate the heat.

Yeah theres some paint thats 500 degree c. up to 1000 degree c. But as for the temp of the calipers, it can be too high like that because it would seem impossible, wouldn't it just melt the calipers and clips holding the brakes right away if it were to reach those temps????Since when were driving, the wind would be rushing in on the calipers at least cooling it down a little bit too during the drive?

I have read that some just use regular spray paint thats not even high heat resistance and it lasted well for them.

But i believe it only relates to how often or how much and how hard your operating the brakes with your travel.

I'm planning on using regular spray paint to see how it turns and maybe clear coat it with a high heat resistance paint.

You can get Duplicolor Caliper Paint at most auto stores. Make sure you lightly sand and degrease the metal first. You probably need to put multiple coats on. I would not use regular spray paint nor would I put a clear coat over it.

If the paint cannot hold up to the heat - it won't melt or run, it will just burn and flake off.

Brake system temps vary, the hottest part - the pads, can see operating temps anywhere from 300C-800C, depending on pad materials and driving conditions.

The key with any paint job is the prep work - doesn't matter if you have the best paint you can buy, it will peel off incredibly quickly if the metal wasn't prep'd correctly.

Longest I got hi-temp epoxy paint to last was about a year with the decent degreasing of the caliper on my old 2003 Matrix XRS w/Hawk pads. Was planning to remove the calipers and media blast them to get all the grease/oil/dust off them as well as dig into the surface a bit, but never got a chance to do it. Did that on before on a BB project muscle car - epoxy paint lasted over two years without issue.
