How to Remove Fuel Rail

guys,

i am changing out a leaky fuel rail. i have all the parts but am stuck with 2 problems:

1. how do you "de-pressurize" the fuel system? i do not see a valve on the line and i cannot locate a bolt....any pics here would be awesome!!

2. once i get the fuel system de-pressurized, how do i remove the fuel rail from the hose? it seems stuck inside that silver piece at the end of the fuel line hose. does this just get wiggled out? is it easier to get out once you have the fuel system de-pressurized?

ive already got the rail bolts off and the rest figured out, but i cant get anywhere until i get this.

please help!! I need my car for my job so im kind of stuck right now.

thanks guys

I can't help you with the rest, but I believe to drain the fuel out you need to pull the fuel pump relay, start the car, and idle it until it dies.

Also, when you do put the rail back together, you must use brand new o-rings on each of the injectors or they are likely to leak.

Look at this picture of looking up from the driver footwell:

The small gray relay is the one to pull. If you have power windows, you'll have another small gray relay in the blank spot here.

Once you depressurized the fuel rail, you need to slide a special sleeve over the silver part to separate the connection. This tool is called disconnect tool and should be available from autozone or similar.

de-pressurize of fuel rail

thanks guys.

so once i do this....will my fuel system be "de-pressurized"?

i know on some other cars you have to loosen a fuel rail bolt or valve...i guess the corolla 1998 does not have this? i just dont want to be sprayed in eyes.

anyone know what this special silver tool to remove the fuel rail is called?

If you've run the car until it dies, and it won't start anymore, there will be no fuel left in the rails, so you can't spray anything.

Go to you auto parts store and ask for a Fuel Line Disconnect tool set for a Toyota. I'd get a set of different sizes, but I think the size is 5/16".
