1998 Hazards Flashing

Hi there,

Just got a 1998 Corolla and have noticed that the hazard lights flash quickly when I get in the car and does so intermittently (Maybe 20 quick flashes or so) until I start the car up.

The speed suggests a bulb out - but all signal lights are working.

Any suggestions?

perhaps you need a new flasher? Or there is some other faulty wiring

Thanks for your reply - it seems a little too regular for faulty wiring and doesn't happen when the key is in, or once I've exited the car.

What is a "flasher"? Sorry - new to all this!

The car has jst been through it's MOT and has had a trusted mechanic as the owner for the past 2 years and should be in fairly good condition so if anything has went wrong - it's been in the 2 hours since I left the garage!

The flasher unit is what causes the blinking. It can be found up under the steering wheel on the left side, above the fuses. Perhaps take it back to the mechanic!

Today I opened the car with the button - rather than the key and the flashing didn't happen - just the one standard flash as usual! Bizarre!

I'm willing to bet the car has an alarm system, and the siren is disconnected or just not working. When you say you unlocked it with "the button", I assume you mean the key FOB unlock button?
