Question 01 Corolla - Replace Front Turn / Corner Signal Housing?

Hey all!

Long time lurker, first time poster!

Just got word from the gf that the lens on her driver's side turn/corner signal lamp has popped clean off.

Looks like the adhesive completely dried out and the lens popped off cleanly. Unfortunately the lens is MIA so looks like I'll be replacing the entire housing.

Before I dive in, is the corner signal housing only held in by the one (1) retaining screw? or do I need to take the bumper off or something else?

Thanks for all the help!

Cheers!

Easy. One screw then it's straight pull towards the front. Pull the plug. Put in new corner, reverse the process.

It's a straight out pull after the screw is removed. BUT, there are two plastic fingers that slide in to the outside and top of the fender. Of course they both have little protrusions at the end that catch on the fender to keep the housing from sliding out. Use a long thin flat screwdriver to unlatch the protrusions, then the housing will slide out. I filed off the protrusions when I put the housing back in so that the next time I need to remove it I won't have to overcome another shitty Toyota design.

Perfect! Thanks for all the tips, sounds like this should be a breeze!

One more follow up question, I was looking to pick up a new housing on eBay which has some decent prices, but when the gf called the dealer they mentioned that there was a "newer" and "older" turn signal lamp housing.

Was there a facelift or tweak to the headlights/signal lights during the production of the 8th gen corollas?

Thank again!

98-00 have the tear drop headlights. 01-02 have the extra round part for the high beams. apparently the corners fit differently as well. my box of corners says 01-02 corners

01-02 corners are taller to the bottom and has a curved edge on the side adjacent to the headlight, to accommodate the larger low beam.
