changing ambient temperature sensor

We have a 2001 Corolla S, and recently, our ambient temperature sensor began to fail. (It began to act strangely, giving us temperatures that we know weren't right. On a 95 degree day, it was saying 85 for example.)

I found the sensor and it didn't look like much of an issue to change it, so I ordered a new one from the auto parts store.

I began to try to change it tonight and after 20 or 30 minutes, I said to heck with it. I can't seem to get the factory installed plug loose on it. I squeezed and tugged on the connector a million ways and it won't budge. Also, the factory one seems to be inside a housing of some sort. If I can just get the old one out, it appears that the new one will go back in that same housing.

What am I doing wrong, or is this something better left to someone else?

Thanks.

John

The plug (that "housing of some sort") has a latch you need to depress while pulling the sensor straight down, assuming you didn't unclip the whole thing.

thank you!

This was one of those "DUHHH" times. Went back out there, depressed the latch and out it came. I must have spent 20 minutes doing the same thing the other day without success. Anyway, thanks!
