Two quick things to check:

Make sure the parking brake is fully disengaged, make sure nothing is jammed underneath the handle or even inside the rubber folds at the base.

Double check your brake fluid level in the master cylinder - if it is too low, the lamp will illuminate.

You may need new front brakes. Same thing happened to me, and it turned out that the front pads were shot. Got new pads, no more light. It also stops better. Who'd have thought????
