I found one, that I'd like to swap out with my current '98 gauge cluster w/o tach. What I'd like to know is how rare finding this part is, and if it is worth the $75 the guy wants for it.
The way I found this one was by looking for a steering wheel. I seen the dash in the background and asked if he still had it and if so how much he wanted for it.
S gauge cluster is red on black with red needles. Standard ones are white on black with white needles.
You need to swap over your current speedo to keep mileage correct. That would also mean trying to transplant the S speedo skin onto yours. I have not tried this.
And to OP: Assuming you have a 98, you WILL run into problems with a 01 cluster. If you want to be different, you can look for a Touring package gauge cluster which is red on white with tach. You still have to deal with transplanting the speedo skin with this route.
Good luck.

I'm trying to go for a full 2001 Type S conversion, if not TRD hence the name. I love the look of the Type S cluster over any other even though it only reads out to 110MPH. I have a stock cluster w/o tach and those are going for the same money on eBay and a little higher. I mainly want the tach and the Type S just looks right.
I've heard that if you go into the dealership, they can reprogram the odometer to read vehicle correct. If not, then I'll custom fabricate the face to my stock somehow.
Also, I have no problem putting the hours in to make this project look right. The only thing with this project that may never be, is a full Type S TRD conversion. That's where my wallet screams bloody murder. The car will not only be a daily driver and part-time toy, but it'll also be a show car, and buying the car for $500, I have plenty of head room to do modifications, especially since I do all my own work, except maybe for powder-coating... Paint is a toss-up as to whether my buddy would let me use his body shop and still pay him money for paint?
where or what did you guys exactly find the type s speedo's at on ebay or?
im having the darnest time to find either that or the rare whites?
i got a 01.

The cluster isn't going to work right on your 1998.
The most obvious problems I noticed before I took a 2002 cluster out of my 2000 were:
I believe the right signal light won't work. The defrost button will turn on the right signal light.
98,99,00 were wired one way and 01,02 were wired another way.
I found it on a random site. Not too many Corollas in salvage yards around here. If I have to rewire the whole car to get the gauge to work then fine. I'm doing an '01/'02 conversion anyways including interior pieces which is gonna force me to rewire most of the car. Mine didn't come with power mirrors, power windows, power locks or cruise control. Buh it will when I'm done.
It came out of a corolla S and it has been in my car for over 3 years.
Now go get a ambient temp sensor and make your life complete.
