Couple Question

Hey guys & gals,

First question is I have this loud rattling sounds that comes around when I'm sitting at a light sometimes but not all the time. I have heard that it is some sort of blast shield? ( Sound is coming from somewhere under the hood.

Is this an expensive fix if I bring it into a shop?

Second question is another noise problem. When I turn my fan on sometimes not all the time it sounds like a little chipmunk is squeeking away at me inside my car haha. I'm pretty sure I don't have any living in there.

Any idea what this noise is? Also if I bring it to a shop is it an expensive fix.

Thanks for the help!

Cheers,

AS for the rattling - could be from a number of sources. First ones I'd check on are the underbody shield, heat shields around the exhaust, and the exhaust system itself. For the shields and exhaust , tug on them when you are under the car (use jackstands if using a jack - wait until the car is cool) - see if any are obviously loose and moving around on you. Also check for contact from road debris (had a car that ran over an old Christmas tree - most of it was still stuck to the car) and other engine components that could be touching.

As for the chirping noise with fan use - definitely sounds like you need to clean out the blower motor. If you are lucky, it was probably some leaves or debris that got in there making the noise. Otherwise the blower motor is starting to go bad and will need to be replaced. Everything is mounted inside the cabin, behind the glovebox.

I've had the tweety bird behind my glove box too for sometime now. I just haven't gotten around to doing anything about it yet. Would a good blast from the ol' leaf blower pointed at the intake vent behind the glove box clear out the debris or is there a better way to do it?

That sound when you use the fan you hear a squeequin actually happened to my friends maxima and it ended up being the radiator fan that was messed up n needed a new one so also keep that in mind eventho we have corrollas.

Well I do have two 4ton jacks so I will bump the car up and start checking things out.

for the fan though is their any theards open about how to access the line? Any pictures? I'm not really to sure what I would be looking for. It has been making this noise for about 5-6 years just off and on so I am hoping it's just debris inside.

Alrighty,

So I found the source of the noise! YAY! But I have no idea how to fix it! BOO!

So There is a sheild that protects the exhaust that leads out of my engine and goes down to the underside of the car. Pretty sure it's just called the Front Exhuast Pipe.

Werid thing is though that the shield is still tightly bolted together. I grabbed it with my hand and it seems very solid at the bottom of the sheild but as I tried to move to the top of the shield (Closer to the engine) it had some wiggle room up there. If I tap it with my hand at the top it will reperduce that lovely rattling sound I hear while idling or when the car first starts up.

I don't just want to wedge something in there as I'm sure it probably gets extermly hot. Anyone have any ideas do solve this problem?
