Water leaking into Trunk - [problem]

Hi,

Long time reader first time posting. I have learned a lot on here about my car.

I need some help. I have a 2001 Corolla S, 192, 000 KM and I am noticing after a rain fall there is water in my trunk lid (not sure if thats the right term - the piece of metal that covers the trunk - the thing the spoiler attaches to.

So water gets filled inside my truck lid and then when i open the trunk lid water is falls inside the trunk soaking anything inside.

Sorry for my poor description, I hope someone understands me.

Thanks in advance guys.

Sounds like water is weeping into the spoiler mounting holes and collecting inside the trunk garnish. One quick test is to remove the spoiler and cover the holes with tape - see if the water is getting through those holes or trickling in around the sides. That case, double check that the rubber gasket is in good shape, not dry rotted or cracked. Pull up slightly on the gasket as well - sometimes the adhesive dries out and the gasket will just lift right up.

I believe that there were only two bolts in total holding down the 8th gen spoiler - don't remember off the top of my head. Bolt holes might be covered by rubber plugs on the inside of the trunk lid. There are through holes where you can get at the bolts. A lot depends on how the spoiler was installed - some where assembled at the factory, some were "port" installed or installed at the dealership. In either case, should be pretty easy to locate the bolts. If this spoiler has an integrated 3rd brake lamp, then you have to deal with the connection on the inside of the trunk lid as well.
