A 9th gen transaxle will fit - same bolt pattern. A 7th gen will not, unless you want to make an adapter plate for it (different family of engines).

Also look to 1998-2002 Chevy Prisms for a source as well - mechanical clone to the 8th gen Corolla. 7th gen Celica is another source, though I believe that some cables will have to modified to fit.

Most cases, if you are just replacing the transaxle alone, shouldn't run into too much trouble.

Final drive of 9th gen transaxle is said to be 3.941. 8th gen is taller at 3.722. You will trade fuel economy for acceleration with this swap.

If you don't mind me asking - what happened to the transaxle that required a swap? Was it something internal to the transaxle, just excessive wear and tear on it (synchos), or something else? Just curious.
