Newbie question on brake parts

Does the car use brake shoes for the front? AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts don't have them on the websites. It doesn't take them because it's disc brakes in front? I thought it would need shoes in front too, but it's hard to believe the stores would be sold out and not have backup suppliers.

Additionally, at these stores I couldn't find brake pads for the rear either. Surely the drums need pads too, or do they come with the replacement drums?

eBay Motors is confusing me too. The titles always say pad or shoe, and the subtitle always has the one I don't want, or its for Front when I am trying to search for Rear.

I just want to buy all the pads and shoes I need. I already bought drums and rotors. I also bought the rear shoes and front pads, but do I need to buy these other shoes and pads and where?

EDIT: I have a basic 8th Gen Corolla (2001 LE). I put this in my signature field and my signature isn't showing up?

I think you're getting the terms mixed up.

It is known as brake PADS and rotors on the front. On the rear, they are brake SHOES and drums. On newer vehicles with "four wheel disc" brakes, they have pads all around and some have brake shoes on the inside of the rotors used as the parking brake like my Camry. Disc brakes began to replace drum brakes on the front of vehciles in the 60-70's.

Good. That's what I was hoping. It means I bought everything I need. A pair of drums (rear), a pair of rotors (front), a pair of pads (front), and a pair of shoes (rear).

Mine has optional ABS, but I shouldn't have to replace anything extra, since my ABS seems to work as far as I can tell? I believe with ABS it's supposed to feel jittery when I am braking hard and fast, and that's the best way to tell?

Seem like you got everything for a full brake job. Might get some new hardware like clips and springs if they are broken. The drums are a pain with those springs. With the new drums and rotors, remember to clean them well with brake cleaner to remove the oil they coat them with for storage. Don't forget to lube the slide pins too.

That's one way to tell if the ABS is working. With most cars on started up, there can be a quick clicking noise which is just the sound of the ABS unit self-testing.

TYVM. I am not doing the work myself. I want to have all the parts on hand. I can return the unused parts after.

Even if they are not broken or visibly bent, I'm interested in replacing some of the less expensive hardware, while it's opened up. I have had braking issues and think there is extra strain put on the hardware due to these other parts not being replaced when they should have.

I see a kit with all the hardware the drum brakes, which I should get. I don't know what to get for the front. There's alignment clips which I don't think would be needed to improve safety and performance? There are the caliper bolts and pins, and I guess there is more.

On other thing. DO NOT use compressed air to clean out the brake system. Breathing brake dust is very nasty stuff. Use brake cleaner instead.
