Broken inner T.rod replacement, same 98' Prizm below

Hi Again.

As a result of the accident that bent the R.front lower control arm, the inner tie rod was snapped. I have a new part from Advanced but can't seem to get it to un-screw. I have not put great force on it for fear of damaging the steering unit.

My question is, does this part un-screw as the new part indicates or does the whole steering unit have to come off of the fire wall to be replaced? It does not cover this in the Haynes manual.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Scott

It does unscrew. There are thin washers that get bent over the flat sides of the "nut" to lock it in place. Make sure you bend those out of the way first. Sometimes it's hard to get any traditional tools in there to break it free. They make a special inner tie rod tool that you may wat to buy or rent if it's really on there good.

Before you get the tool though at least give it a good try with the steering wheel turned all the way to the left. That will stick the right tie rod out as far as possible and hopefully give you good enough access.

Thanks for the reply Bennie. I got the parts changed out that day. Thanks for the tool suggestion, I did not know one existed.
