To those who may be thinking of following pchalpin's advice about "de-rusting" the valve, yes it can be done but not recommended unless you cannot afford a new one. The bolt that holds the valve in place is difficult to reach and the repaired valve will never be reliable.
It seems that the Evap components are significantly different for different model years, so always be sure that you know exactly what's on your car before ordering any parts. My daughter's '98 Corolla has a fuel pressure sensor next to the canister and 2 dealers I've called cannot find the part in their database, yet it is available online from oem and generic auto parts suppliers. It may be that the VSV your dealer is referring to isn't even what is in the car.
