Will 05 matrix 1.8 work in 2000 prizm?

I have aquired a 2000 chevy prizm with 122k miles on it. The car burns oil at a rate of 2qts every 10 gallons of gas. Needless to say, I dont think I am going to rebuild it, rather replace it. I called around to a few salvage yards in the area and was told they had a 1.8L out of a 2005 matrix with 99k miles on it. Further side not info, The car has 195 compression on all 4 cylinders. Oil pressure hot idle is 16psi. They want $1050 for complete engine. I was wondering:

A. Will this engine bolt right in the prizm and work or will modifications need to take place? If so what?

B. The numbers on the engine, Do they seem good or poor?

C. Any advice?

Thanks for all your help in advance.

The engine should fit as long as the Matrix is not an AWD model. You will have to swap over your flexplate / flywheel, manifolds, some sensors, throttle body, injectors, wiring, etc. Your compression looks great, my service manual states that 189-145 is an acceptable range. Your oil pressure looks good, the service manual calls for a min of 4.3 psi at idle. Good luck! Getting a good used newer engine is definitely the way to go when solving an oil consumption issue.

I purchased an 05 pontiac vibe 1.8 FWD engine with 52k miles on it. I plan do do the swap in two weeks when i get some time off work. I am in the process of gathering the needed parts and fluids to accomplish this task in the mean time. I have oil, oil filter, ATF fluid, and coolant. I am going to purchase a new thermostat and gasket before I put the engine in the car. I would like to do all the basics while it is out of the vehicle. I purchased iridium plugs as well. My question is, Since I will be transfering all my accessories over to new motor, which drive belt will I need? The one for the 2000 prizm or the one for a 05-08 vibe? I checked with Autozone and they are different part numbers...Also, Any input from anyone else who has done the swap as to what I may need or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again for all the help guys!

My only speculation regarding the belt issue is that the difference maybe due to one of the rotating components such as p/s pump, alternator, a/c compressor, w/p pulley, crank pulley. I would use what came originally with your car to avoid and confusion in the future.
