D2R HID Retrofit! LED Switchbacks! pics & video

i used have the h4 bi-xenon crap that created way too much glare. i decided to have mercy on oncoming traffic and install 4300k osram D2R bulbs. after research i figured that i only needed a special h4 to d2r adapter found easily on ebay. in this thread i'm going to show you my d2r HID retrofit setup.

please excuse the crappy iphone pictures. This does not do the HIDs justice but i will take dslr photos later.

kit ($60):

Adapters ($30):

i did not use the generic bulb, bought my own osrams ($80):

on the wall:

front before aiming

front after aiming

dark road, crappy camera. ill get better pictures later.

very bright (in the light beam):

there is much less glare now than before, there is actually a cutoff now. I drove on very dark roads and no oncoming traffic flashed me! i used to get high beamed all the time. High overhead street signs are no longer illuminate by glare and there is i would say a 80-90% reduction in overall unwanted glare.

I bought VLEDS switchback bulbs for the front parking and indicator. installed with 3ohm resistor.

here is the video, however the bulb appears bluer than it actually is:

Oh, you had me excited there for a second when you said "D2R HID retrofit" lol. I guess that solution is better than what you had before!

He probably expected that you retrofitted a projector.
Which is what I thought you did too until I saw the thread.

Nice job though. I like the switchback LEDs

yeah, I thought you put in real HID projectors like I did a few times. The result is stunning output! Much better than what you did, although your solution is better than an H4 kit

I thought you'd have got a LED-compatible flasher instead of that resistor, if you spend that much $ on switchback bulbs. Not to mention changing the flasher is easier than wiring in that resistor.

Indeed D2R would be much less work than a true retrofit, but the reflector housing isn't designed to light from a D2R bulb so there would still be some stray light output not going where they should, even with the shield doing its job.

Switchback probably have no place on a 8th gen unless you reroute the DRL to the front corner lights so they light up in daytime OR with taillights on (essentially always on). Which with a HID bulb now in you should do.
