1998 Corolla - Stuttering/skipping while accelerating

1998 Toyota Corolla 2WD CE

First post, so I hope this hasn't been addressed already...

For the past two days, I've seen a check engine light flash (not stay on), but flash when i accelerate. The car "hiccups" when accelerating. Maybe a missfire? But continues to do this when first starting the car in the morning. After I get to work, I start the car again and there is no sign of hiccups or skips. Only happens very first thing in the morning. The check engine light has been on before, but that was because of the EVAC system. I have not check again, if there is another code, but will be doing that today. I can still drive it, but I fear

I recently had my alternator replaced too. Also, had new spark plugs and battery in the last 6 months

Any suggestions?

When you changed the plugs, were the wires changed? This happeed to me several years ago. I happened to acutally see the arcing to the block from the wires while it was misfiring with the aid of the morning dew and cold/damp air. New wires solved the problem for me.

That's a good idea. I have not checked to see if I could see any arching though. I did change the wires completely too. I'll be sure get replacements if necessary.
