fuel pump noise

My fuel pump will start making a honking noise after driving about 30 minutes or so. I can make it stop if I tap the gas, but it will come back instantly. It seems to make the same noise if I'm at steady light throttle. It makes these noises in about 1 second intervals. Is it failing?

Pretty sure, the noise is coming from the rear driver's side wheel well. Any time I tap the gas and the injectors start pumping more, the noise stops.

If it is actually the fuel pump making the noise then you lucked out and got a warning it's going out. Most of the time fuel pumps just crap out with no warning leaving you sitting on the side of the road.

I'd swap it out if I were you. It's super easy. There is an access cover under the back seat that has adhesive holding it on. Pull it off and you can get the pump right out of the tank.

before you go and throw a fuel pump at your car, record a video for the class so we can hear what your hearing. I dont think its a fuel pump because A the pump is in the center of the car under the backseat making it near impossible to hear anything coming from it. B A load on the Fuel pump would cause more noise. now a engine noise transmitting through the car sounds better. But i'm just speculating.

Well I can actually hear it clearly through both wheel wells in the rear. Wouldn't letting more fuel flow through the pump by pressing the gas strain it less since there's not such a pressure buildup?

Annoying sound huh?

surely is a odd sound. got yourself a timebomb in your trunk perhaps? after seeing that maybe the fuel Filter is clogged up. it is integral with the pump.

Your'e going to have to get under the car and look. It could be associated with the EVAP system. There are pneumatic valves attached to the vapor canister as well as a VSV for pressure sensor electrical valve. The VSV for pressure sensor is mounted to a small bracket that could be vibrating when the valve turns on and off.

Well, I got the car on the lift and it seems like it is definitely the vsv right next to the canister.

It's not the vsv...it's a circular solenoid or valve that sits right next to the canister. Is this the purge solenoid? Will I have to replace the whole canister?
