We got this 2000 Corolla over the summer and just noticed this thing, mounted above the rear view mirror. It's wired into the car, apparently, has a push button and an LED on it, and appears to have some kind of antenna. It says "Responder" across the back, molded in the black plastic. Is this like one of those "OnStar" devices or something?
Not sure exactly what that all means. We did have a Clifford alarm put in, with keyless.
The alarm sends a signal to the remote to confirm commands such as arm disarm and will "page" you if someone sets off the alarm provided you are within range.

If you have a two way remote, the remote will notify you if the alarm goes off or if the car is being unlocked/locked by you. Mine has the screen and it lets me know if the car is running or if anything was left open (door, trunk, hood, etc)
One way remote won't do this. You can hit the unlock key on the remote, the car will unlock, but the car will not send a signal back to the remote letting you know that it has been unlocked.
