I recently bought this for my 96' corolla but it's having trouble reading my verbatim cd's...

it reads originals just fine, just my verbatims give it trouble

so for those that have it, what cd brand do you use?

Which kind of Verbatim discs are you using? Which program are you using to burn the CDs?

Sort of hit of miss with the burned CDs. I'd say about 90% of what I burn, plays just fine - the other 10%, sometimes plays, depends on the conditions. Lots of times, it is not the media, but how you burn them.

Burn on the slowest speed on the CD-burner, finalize your discs, and whenever possible, burn using Audio CD settings (depends on the application you use). Just burning the CDs at the slowest speed helps more than 50% of the time for me. If it doesn't work for you - just try another stack of CDs - their pretty cheap nowadays.

Did you close the session after burning? What method did you use to burn the CD - Disc-At-Once or Track-At-Once? These Verbatim discs are 74min/650MB or the 80min/700MB variety?

Myself, I use either a Lite-on or Pioneer DVD/CD burner, software used includes Nero, Roxio, Express Burn, Burn4Free, Toaster, even Windows Media Player. All worked on my OEM headunits, both single and multi-disc units. Burn in DAO mode and verify that session is closed, used only on 74 minute discs for compatibility, burned on the slowest setting on the burner (2x typically).

Also depends on the age and usage of the OEM headunit - as they age, they will be less tolerant of what media they will like. Eventually, even the silver pressed discs will be rejected. Sometimes cleaning the unit will help, though you'll have to pull the unit apart to do an effective job. Your typical solvent or abrasive discs can do more damage than good.

Lots of trouble in my stock '01 Corolla player with burned discs..even burning at the slowest speeds. It did much better when the car/player was newer but now burned discs are not very listenable...worse when going around corners. Original cds, however, are fine.

Never had problems with my 01 playing burned disks as long as the songs are wma files. I use Memorex CD-R disks from Walmart and burn them with Nero Express.
