03 intake 01 rolla

I recently swapped an 03 or newer 1zz into my 2001 corolla. I'm determined to use the plastic 03 intake and larger throttle body. I was wondering if anyone has tried it and if they were able to make it idle correctly. I'm assuming the Evap set-up isn't quit the same. Some input would be awesome!

There are few on this board and some others that I frequent. Idle speed is higher with the plastic plenum and larger TB, as the original ECM is limited on its air/fuel map flexibility. You can directly attack this by running a piggyback or standalone EMS - though costs are quite prohibited for what gains you'll reap initially. If you plan on adding any other engine mods, that might be the best way to go - get the most for you mods. To solve the surging idle issue alone - probably not worth the effort/expense to get the separate EMS unit.

Might try pinging Bdub215, Milky, or Tweek43110 to start - I believe they all went with the plastic intake manifold with the larger TB and running the OEM ECM. But I'm not 100% sure on that.

The idle issue, some clearance, and some futzing/fabrication issues were why I decided to shelve my 7th gen Celica + TB project for now for my own 2002 Corolla. The car also needs some more TLC, as most of my time went into the wife's 2009 Matrix XRS and former 2003 Matrix XRS. Being jammed up at work means that I have an hour here and there - which is not enough time to do it correctly on a car that I need as my DD. Maybe next year - as I have a rebuilt C60 6-speed in the basement, wrapped up in plastic waiting to go in. Just holding out for a clean 2ZZ-GE to pop up. That or another 2003-2005 Matrix XRS or 2005-2006 Corolla XRS to pop up for a good price.

I have the Celica GT's IM and TB swapped onto my 2000 corolla 1zz-fe. The idle should be fine, my IACV seemed to be sticking at first and I had a high idle, but I cleaned it up and it went to normal. Didn't the 2003+ corollas already have the plastic IM's stock?

Mine is a 2001 with a 2003 swap. I got the 2003 engine with the plastic IM and larger TB. I want to use it as opposed to the stock 2001 aluminum IM and tiny throttle body (when i started the swap a friend of mine pointed out how pitiful it was). As of now when it starts it surges a little but then smooths out and idles perfectly. I was wondering if it was the due to the IAC sticking or the fact that it's different from the 2001 IAC.

Sill running the OEM ECU. Setting up the Vacuum lines and keeping the cruise control working, making everything fit properly, and clearing the codes took a few days. but i drove with a evap leak for a while till i got everything sorted so yea... . the main part only took a few hours.

I had that issue too. My car just had to relearn the idle parameters with all the extra air coming in. First start and it was idling at 3 grand!

Go to the dealer and ask for the recalled intake manifold gasket for the 03 corolla. that will take care of that problem.

Mine started up and idle just as normal as it was after i finished my swapped and there was no codes or any vacuum leak or so. I never experienced anything wrong with it.

The very first time I started it, it idled at 3 grand but now when i start it it bounces between 2-3 grand for a few seconds then stays a 2 grand for about 30 seconds then drops to 1200 rpm. But I figure that will change once my new air intake gets here. Right now I have a slightly modified combo of the 01 and 03 air intake hose.
