Daily Driver

Hey all. I'm getting relocated for work and now my commute will be 55 miles each way. I drive an 2008 tundra, lifted with bigger tires and I dont want to drive it daily. Mainly for gas reasons ($$$$) and the other b/c I dont want to but on 600 miles a week on my truck.

I am a huge fan of toyotas and was looking at 2001-2002 corolla as my daily driver. I just wanted to get ya'lls thoughts on the car. I know nothing about them except they are very fuel efficient and that it's a toyota and they are very reliable. Any input would be great. Thanks.

Get one with the 4 speed auto. The manual transmissions are known to fail.

Or get a toyota echo, though the 2003 and up looks much better. I've seen post of 30-40 mpg, maybe more since it is quite a smaller engine but similar to the corolla ones but better fuel efficient but lack of power lol.

The manual transmission isn't known to fail. However, just about every 8th gen manual is probably about due for a new clutch. I replaced my clutch last year myself - most shops in my area charge around $900.

Hello,
I've had my little Corolla 2000 VE since 2004 (63k miles) to date (156k miles) no problems with the car, very happy with it; I just can't let it go!
The only thing I don't like about my car is that does not have ''overdrive'' (since it's a ''VE''...Value Edition?)

Just get a ''LE'' (Luxury Edition?...Limited Edition?)

Have a great day!

Have a lot manual transmissions here in The Netherlands, they are not known to fail. 5 Speed is a bit stronger than the 6 speed though.

If you want to buy one with a vvti enige (first series, gen 8 up to about 2002), check it this enige has oil consumption problems. If so, you'll have to swap the enige ($$). Search the forums / internet for the oil consumption problems with the first vvti engines, you'll find a lot of information.
