1999 Corolla LE alarm prevents starting after changing battery

I have a problem here... I went to change the battery in my 1999 Corolla, and as soon as I disconnected the negative lead, the alarm switched on and nothing I tried worked to shut it off, and the key won't start the car now. So my car is sitting in my driveway with the battery unhooked, because every time I hook it back up, the alarm starts going off again.

Is there something I'm missing here??

I found a little black button and a little switch down by my left foot under the dash, but neither the button nor the switch does anything. Is this something Toyota did, or is it an aftermarket thing? Either way, it is HIGHLY FRUSTRATING!

I figured it out! Thank God....

For future reference, If anyone needs to know how to solve the problem... You have to turn they key to 'ON' while the battery is disconnected, then connect the battery while the key is in this position. Worked for me.
