98 3spd AT fluid change?

My daughter has a 98 with a 3 speed automatic. I was going to change the tranny fluid and filter. It has a regular dipstick, put the haynes manual says to fill using a fill plug on the side of the unit.

Suggestions?

thanks

the Haynes manual is refering to a "Automatic transaxle differential" And state " check / fill plug must be removed to check the level, remove the filler plug from the front of the differential".

Are they talking about a separate unit or the AT itself?

On a 3spd yes the differential has a separate reservoir filled via a fill plug. For a fluid change you have to do both. Same Dexron III ATF for both.

^^^ ok, so drop the tranny pan & change filter. Remove differential plug and drain it, fill tranny at dipstick? and refill differential at fill plug? Of refill both from the differential fill plug?
