New Synchro dilemna! Help!
Hello all,
I am about at the end of my rope with Toyota. This is going to be confusing, so please bear with me.
I am in the process of replacing 4th gear in my 1998 Corolla Manual.
I called up my local Toyota dealer to order the 4th and 4th driven gears, and the guy told me that there had been a "supersession" on the 4th gear, the gear had been updated, and that to make the new gear work, I also had to replace two synchros; the 3rd gear synchro, and the 4th gear synchro.
The two synchros I received are:
33368-12280
33368-12290
The previous synchros would have been:
Third gear: 33368-12090
Fourth gear: 33368-12050
However, the problem is that no Toyota dealership can tell me which of the new synchros is for 3rd gear, and which is for 4th! In fact, only one dealership that I have contacted even has the supersession noted, and at that, only one employee at that dealership is on a computer which notes the supersession!!! Hopefully you can understand my frustration that a company would sell me two parts that they designed to fit two gears, but they are unable to tell me which one goes where!
To add to the confusion, the new syncro 33368-12280 is perfectly IDENTICAL to my old 4th gear syncro (33368-12050)!
So my questions are:
1. Which synchro goes where?
2. If 33368-12280 is for 3rd gear, why would they say that I need to purchase a new one when it's the same same as my current 4th gear syncro (33368-12090) which is being replaced!?
3. Is every car company as ridiculous as this? If not, I will never purchase another Toyota in my lifetime.
Thank you!
