02 Corolla not getting fuel

I own a 2002 Corolla with a 4cyl 1zzfe engine.

I changed the oil and now it won't start.

I removed he plugs and checked for fire. Got fire on all four plugs in a dark garage.

With the ignition switch in the "ON" position and the dash lights on, the engine cranks well.

And with the ignition switch in the "On" position I do not hear the fuel pump whirring in the tank.

I think it isn't getting fuel because it never fires....just cranks.

In addtion, the little push button anti-theft redd light on the left siide of the steering wheel on the dash is not lit up when in the "OUT" position. I've always kept it in the "out" position.

I seem to remember something about a button that needs to be pushed in in the trunk on this car to make it start if it pops out. If that's correct, where is that button.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and THANKS! in advance.

Having the car have a no start after an oil change - probably has nothing to do with the oil, unless you disconnected something on the car during that service.

The fuel system is a returnless design, so the pump will only come on when fuel demand requires it. So you may have just noticed it in the lull between cycling. First see if the pump is working if you power it externally - see if it makes noise, pumps fuel. If it does - the pump is OK. Next is to determine if fuel pressure is OK - though you'll need to install a special fuel hose "t-fitting" to monitor fuel pressure.

As for the anti-theft - that is more interesting. Is this an OEM install or aftermarket? Don't remember any Toyota products that put a reset/disable switch in the trunk from the factory or from the dealership - but it was a common practice for the aftermarket. If the anti-theft is involved, could be killing off the signal from the ECM - telling it not to command fuel.

Last things first. The anti-theft is OEM. I disconnected battery, reconnected it after the horn stopped blaring and the light is now on. I tried starting it again in park and in neutra. It fired a couple of times in neutral but still wouldn't start.

I neglected to mention that after I changed my oil I also pulled the plugs just to see what condtion they were in since they've been in about 10K miles. They looked OK and when I pulled them the second time to check for fire all four were firing.

I don't know why but that "pushing some button" in the trunk or somewhere keeps nagging me. Maybe I'm just thinking of some other car or some article I read.

Thanks for your reply and help.

Guess what? My car started! I thought maybe the fuel injectors were clogged. That was a weird idea. Anyway, made sure I had half a tank of gas by checking the gage, then I took off the gas cap and tried to start it again. It wouldn't start in park but it did in neutra. I don't know what I did right or wrong but I'm grateful anyway. Thanks so much to anyone who responded. This site never lets me down. Jon L. White, Pastor.

Sweet, that brought back some memories - that was what I was thinking before. I remember when they mounted some of those by the heater core - burned up the wires over time.

Or in the trunk, and someone would bump the car hard trying to parallel park, come out to leave and viola, no start...
