just bought 2000 corolla, 149k oil is full and clean. rattles on cold start-up. Is this chain tensioner noise?

mine does the same thing. It rattles when idling in reverse or drive but only when its cold. I thought maybe it was the motor mounts?

Same here. Went away once warmed up. Wondered if there was anything to change. New to the 1zz.

going to talk to a friend of my hes a toyota tech.the tensioner does bolt on to engine from the outside. will post when i know more

It might be a chain guide noise, but it's not a tensioner noise. I replaced my tensioner (for a leak issue) and the noise stayed the same.

My other suspicion is the valves need to be adjusted.
