right turn blinker clicks rapidly but light does not flash

Hello,

Request help. My corolla 99 right turn blinker clicks rapidly but light does not flash. It would intermittently flash if I hold it at certain position. Has anyone come across this? Is there a thread for the fix and how to take it apart?

I searched for blinker clicks rapidly but nothing. I suspect it may either be the relay or the left turn switch that's worn? It may not be the relay because it sometimes would work intermittently and also because it works on certain position.

Thanks!

That does sound like the switch is faulty, you could try removing it and spraying electrical cleaner into the switch and cycling it a few times, but better to just replace it for long term reliability.

Common problem, usually happens on left turn signal.
The grease inside the turn signal switch gets black, hard and the contacts wear. Sometimes cleaning followed by new dielectric grease ( not to much) will work. Sometimes you also have to flip over the contact plate inside the switch . The switch is easy to remove and open up.

when this happened the connections in the socket where the bulb sat in were rusted away. Went to Toyota and bought a new socket for 5$. Problem fixed

Like Enoel said ,check the simple stuff first, if its not a bulb or your flasher , then its your switch( like I said very common problem).

My blub blinks intermintently, that means there's nothign wrong with the bulb and socket right? Can this conclusion be made? You're talking about the bulb socket.

Kyle, when your turn light had issue, did it intermintently work or was it a complete failure at all times with the rapid clicks?

issue fixed. problem was with the turn switch.

I took out the turn switch.

I cleaned then added a thin layer of solder to the middle contact rod then put on dielectric grease. without the solder, just clean and apply dielectric grease made it worse. the middle contact rod was worn.

there's no need to take out the steering wheel. there's one screw on the bottom plastic panel and there's one screw on each side of the plastic column which you can only get to and see if you rotate the stirring wheel. No need to take out the top plastic panel, but you would have to loosen it to be able to take out the turn switch. there's one screw on the right side from below to release the top plastic panel.

thanks guys.
