99 CE Automatic, Shifts, but doesn't engage in any gears?? WTF??

Sup Fellas?

So I start my car up to go black friday-ing, and I shift into Reverse: no reverse lights, the car just revs.... I shift into Drive. Car Just Revs. Shift into Park. Car Just Revs. Shift to 1st gear (all the way back on the lever), Just Revs.


I know some people have trouble shifting in/out of park, thats not the issue here. seems like the car does not engage when the shift lever selects what gear to put the tranny in??

is this a Neutral Safety Switch? A Transmission Shift Linkage? Blown Transmission?

Any Ideas/Suggestions/Advice is greatly appreciated!! Happy Thanksgiving (not for me... since this crap ruined my holiday weekend)

Broken shift cable? Get a helper to watch the gear selection arm on the gearbox while you shift.

That is what appears to be the culprit. Damn.

so, looks like I'll have to go to Toyota or a Junkyard to get the part. Anyone else have had this problem?

I read on here on the 6th gen that its a Pain in the A$$ to get the cable thru the firewall.

i'm thinking maybe I should bite the bullet and take it to Toyota to do it?? The car just hit 180k miles.
