USA Struts very soft

Hi everyone, i changed me struts about 3 years and do 20,000 mileage every year. i thought one of my struts were bent so i bought another one. when i took it off, i noticed it was very soft that it wasn't hard to push down with my hands. why did they finish so fast. it is the Monroe struts. im thinking if one of them is soft all of them is soft. is it something that i have to change right now or it could wait?

Thank you

If they are easily compressible by hand then they are done and need to be changed.

Otherwise, it's only a matter of time before they start leaking and can cause some pretty unpredictable handling characteristics.

Were they suppose to last longer? how long does it usually take for them to go bad? what do you think is the best brand to buy?

Struts are subject to wear and tear and service life would depend on how bad your local road conditions are and the type of driving that you do.

60,000 miles and 3 years sounds about right for aftermarket struts. Could be more or less of course.

KYB GR2's or Tokico HP's would be a good alternative.

I like the Gabriel ReadyMount Assembly. Not a performance shock, not too soft either. About $130 bucks for new struts, springs, mounts, rubber insulators, and boot. No hassle, plug and play.

Read, use the configurator, find a deal. http://gabriel.com/our-products/car-...van/readymount

Struts are supposed to be soft. Springs are what hold your car up. Struts just dampen the bouncy oscillations.

Did you replace your springs? If not, and you have sagging OEM springs, they will destroy brand new struts within a year.

I went cheap and bought the leacree quick struts from rock auto. The left rear side lasted less than a week and is now making popping noises worse than the ones that were completely shot and probably were the original 300,000 mile ones.Because i cut them to not have to bleed the brakes i doubt they will take them back.I guess you really do get what u pay for.

I bought the Monroe Gas Matic initially for about 60 each and they didn't last more than 2 years. Next went with the Monroe Sensa Trac for about 104 each and they seem much more durable a year later. Their quick strut for about 185 comes with the spring and mount already installed, but I couldn't find out what the base strut they use in that set up is. It's black and not blue like the Gas Matic was, so I'm thinking it may be the Sensa Trac, but am not positive.

The longer you drive with bad struts. The quicker your tires will start cupping.
