Starter Solenoid or Contacts?
My '99 Corolla wouldn't start this evening: no rapid clicking from the starter with a known good battery. Gave the starter motor a light tap and the car turned over a few more times than usual and started. I've been searching for starter threads and I see different interpretations of what this temporary fix means.

If I can tap my starter motor and get it going, does that suggest a faulty solenoid, bad brushes, or bad contacts?

If it works when you tap it then it's your solenoid in the starter going. Will need a rebuild or replacement.
