99 Corolla won`t go into high idle on cold start...

The car starts fine, its just not idling high on the first start of the day.

Sometimes it will start pretty rough, but does eventually even out..

I have taken off the throttle body, and the intake manifold and resealed the gaskets.... Torqued to spec..

Checked all hoses, pcv etc... all sealed..

Also cleaned all the sensors with no change...


Which sensor should I be looking at replacingÉ The coolant temp or the MAP....


Anyone with insight would be great.

I have a '98 with the exact same problem! .. hoping to find a solution without paying a garage to diagnose + parts + labour = $$$$$$$$$$

I took my C to my local Mechanic with the symptoms (since we had a few more days with -20)... He called me up a few hours later and said "dont you ever use fuel injector cleaner in your car?" .. I said "NO, I thought there was enough additives in fuel these days to do that job" ... he replied " NO WAY!, I just ran combustion cleaner through your engine and could not beleive the black cloud that came out the tail pipe!, you need to run injector cleaner in every other tank of gas you fill"

Car starts and idles perfect since.......

So your symptoms were no high idle/sluggish cold start? That was respolved with fuel injector cleaner?
