Corolica?! OH! maybe "Corolla GT"?

So it's been about two months since I swapped in the '03+ 1zz into my '01 Corolla and I am in love. The larger TB and Plastic IM give it a throaty growl and it's noticeably more powerful. However, I need MORE!!! This winter I'm gathering parts so In the spring I can put in new engine mounts as well as suspension parts etc.

Any who, I figured while the engine is out I should bolt a Celica's 5 speed to it. I was wondering if I would have to either take the mounts off the old tranny and put them on the celica tranny or if it would just bolt right in?

With this engine swap it'll run all over civics and so far it kept up with a vr6 jetta. I think the gear ratios in the celica tranny will make things more...interesting

If you are going from an automatic to a standard shift - then the weight saving alone will be an automatic gain. Less powertrain losses is just gravy on top.

As for the 7th gen Celica vs 9th gen Corolla 5-speeds - being identical transaxles, have the same gear ratios (C56). Typically, you'll find the Corolla gearbox for considerably less than the Celica - so it pays to shop around. Sometimes it is a factor of 2 difference - $1000 for a Celica C56 vs $500 for a Corolla C56 - just because of what car they were pulled from.

As for the mounts - depends on which one is in better shape. Now would be a great time to install polyurethane mounts - does transmit more vibration into the cabin and steering wheel, but does wonders to reduce and sometimes eliminate wheel hop on hard launches.

They do make a close ratio variant - though they are a little tougher to find. Transaxle choice will also be influenced by later power mods in the future. If you are thinking big power down the road - might be a safer bet to start thinking of the E153 transaxle - takes a little more work to make them fit, but they have a reputation to be near bulletproof in strength and durability.

I was just going to swap in a manual tranny from an 01+ celica. My corolla is manual as well. I was just wondering if the celica tranny will bolt right in or if i have to use the mounts off the corolla tranny.

I imagine the vr6 Jetta was stock, automatic, and the race didn't go over 70 mph or so lol. Anyways, nice job man, I can only imagine how quick it'll feel with the shorter gearing. I'm guessing you're running with the 03+ corolla ecm? Is your fuel cut at 6,500 rpm?

Big difference between the Celica's C56 and the Corolla's C59. The celica doesnt have the huge drop in RPM in 4th gear that the corolla does. Which is why every time I've been against one i lost on my 4th gear shift but kept up if not pulled in the first three. The E series shouldnt be touched unless your boosting. And while good they're not bulletproof. I broke one in my Lexus some how and to this day i scratch my head on how it happened.
