Thought I would post this up there as another resource for those thinking about swapping in a cluster with a tach.
"But, we've beaten this topic to death already. 98-00 is different than 01-02." While this is true, a lot of the used part places (especially on E-Bay) are mislabeling their items. They pull these clusters and then label them as compatible with 1998-2002 which we know is incorrect. But how to tell the difference?
Even if the auction goes into detail on the specific year model the cluster was pulled from, ask (if it is not provided in the auction) for a picture of the backside of the cluster, specifically the turn signal indicator area. This will tell you which years the cluster will actually work with, because all of them appear the same from the front.
98-00
01-02
Note the changes in the traces running from the high beam (center) indicator bulb and the left turn signal (right) bulb between both clusters. On 98-00 pin 1 (from the right) is for the high beam. Pin 2 is for the left turn signal indicator and pin 3 is for the rear defrost indicator. On 01-02, pins 1 and 2 are for high beam, and pin 3 is for the left turn signal indicator.
Hope this helps!
