USA CV Joint Stuck

I have a 2002 Corolla. I am replacing the passenger side drive axle and it is really stuck in there. I have tried prying it out, pulling it out and wedging it out. The metal lip up against the transmission on the drive shaft boot has become bent but still not even a slight move away from the trans. Am I missing something? I have the strut, hub assembly and dirt cover all off. Shouldn't it just pop ot or is there retaining bolts or anything i may have missed?

Pry from opposite sides simultaneously. Last time I had to pop one of those puppies, I was under there with a crow bar on one side while my buddy went at the other side with a hub cap tool (hey, ya use what ya have, right?). It's a good thing nobody was parked next to us in the driveway, the axle ended up 15 feet away, in the yard. This was on a 91 and the axle had only been installed for a couple of months, after a tranny rebuild, so it's not even a matter of how long it's had to seat in there. Nope, when those things break, the **** themselves in there and it's a real bit-uhmmm-joy to get them out.

its got a spring clip inside. sometimes they get stuck tho, and can be a real bitch to get out.

if you're replacing the entire axle, just grab the outer part, and pull it out. it will pull the joint out of the inner cup, and likely tear the boot.
but then the axle wont be in your way. this makes it much easier to work with.

do as suggested above, if you're able to. but, if not, make sure when you're prying it out, try to keep the axle as centered as possible. they sort of get jammed in there if they get tipped off center.

you might get a chisel, and tap it in between the axle, and transmission. altho, we normally just use a large screwdriver, or prybar.

It requires a quick and strong tug with a pry bar. You need a quick enough pull to have the lock ring compress closed and slip out.

One other trick that sometimes works is to rotate the axle a quarter turn at a time so that the ring will change orientation.

Keep at it and you should have it out in 10 mins or so.

My CV shaft on the driver side broke when the ball joint felt off. To get some ideas I went to HomeDepot. At the plumbing section, I saw a rubber hose coupling with 3" at one end and 2" at the end. I bought the rubber hose coupling and attach it to the knuckle. At the other end, I will attach it to a 2" pvc pipe with a lenght of 2'. I will drill a hole through the 2" pipe and make a T handle. I used a hammer to pound the shaft out at the T handle. I can not post pictures. PM me, I will send you the pictures. The tools from HomeDepot cost around $10.
