Hey guys.. this is my first post.
I was browsing this site for more than 2hrs and didnt find any useful thing about how to program a new remote for the 2002 corolla.
Theres lots of info about how to do it for models after 2002.
I googled so many times, but any of those methods didnt work.
so please tell me how to do it step by step.
Im sure theres a lot of people wondering how to do it, or who spend $200 at the dealer ship.
Thanks
I can help, u as I recently bought a spare remote and got instructions! I need u to confirm what type of system and what remote. You can figure it out by using the FCC id or rpn # on the back of the current remote that works or even a dead past remote.

The reason im replacing my remote is because my back cover of the remote got brocken. All what i have at the back side of it is a piece of duct tape. But i can give you the details of my new remote which i think is from a corolla 2005 model.
I believe the issue ur gonna run into is that ur new remote will not
Be compatible with ur existing system. I think after 8th gen, Toyota began offering a
Oem system which uses a different brain then ur 2002 system which is most
Likely dealer installed aftermarket system. Can u describe what type of programming u have done thus far to get the new remote to work with the car? And do you remember what type of remote u had? (# of buttons, green led?)
Well, I just gave up cz its impossible to program by our selves. The remote is from a 04 toyota corolla that is not used anymore, And i didnt do any programing..
3.lock and unlock doors 5 times using master switch
4. close and open drivers door
5. lock and unlock drivers door 5 times again
6.insert key into ignition, bring to on, and then remove key.
- at this point i hear my door lock and unlock indicating that it went into programming mode.
the instructions after after follow as such, but do not work for me:
hold lock and unlock for 2 sec, then release and hold lock for 2 sec. this should program the remote and another cycle of lock/unlock will occur automatically, but it doesnt.
If anybody has any insight on what the step are after you put the car in programming mode is greatly appreciated. this thing starts to drive me crazy.
Would Love to Help you 2slow. However I would need some more information regarding your particular system. Although the hardware is made by DEI (majority at least), the software side is different. What type of remote do you have (physical descrp. # of buttons, LED color, FCC ID, and RPN). From there maybe I can help you better. One more thing is that, your instructions are different than mine, so yea it varies from Alarm to alarm

one thing is for certain i have the right programming instructions. I am able to put the car in add, rewrite and confirmation mode with those insctructions.
At first i thought th eremote was not good but i was able to program it just fine with my Vibe.
Oh well, now i just need to find a remote online or ebay, but those people are asking crazy prices, in the 80$ range for a used one when the dealers here sell them for 75$ new.
http://www.drdetailshop.com/ Give them either a call or look up the website. AWESOME REPOSITORY OF REMOTES and INSTRUCTIONS. Their Prices are good too. I did give them a call, got the right info.

Thanks! I need to program a remote for my 02 Rolla and this will come in handy.
Problem is, according to Keylessremotes4u, my remote key's look and part number match that of a 98' Chevy Prizm's remote.
And the website has (slightly) different programming instructions for 02 Corolla vs 98 Prizm.
Which instruction should I follow? I am leaning towards 98' Prizm given the matching part no. and look.
Yes, the prizm and corolla have the remote for certain years in North America to my best knowledge. According to the local dealer, this is the remote for corollas, i went ahead i bought that form the scrap yard and it worked with the instructions that i posted above for my corolla 2002.(dealer 1 - internet and ebay experts 0)
the prizm might have the same remote but its possible that it uses different programming.
this is my remote:

And i tried quite a few different insctuctions before finding the right one. if its the right thing youll see it, if not nothing will happen, theres no harm to be done. give it a try until you find the right one. but i am sure 99% that the ones i posted will work for you also, we both have canadian cars.

Thanks! Mine is exactly the same as yours.
I got 2 remotes from the dealer and one has never worked (even with new battery, no response from car whatsoever. I figure they might have forgotten to program the 2nd one and would give it a try.

The program works on the good remote and the bad one remains unresponsive.
The salesperson at dealership told me to have it looked at by a watch repair shop, as the dealer would be expensive. Any advice?
well if it aint your battery then its the remote, and you wrote that it did not work from the beginning.
Not sure about why they would suggest a watch repair shop, its the first time i hear that and i dont see the relation between a car remote and a watch shop.
