Not sure it's much help but remove the intake hosing/airbox top that would include several electrical connectors. Remove two coolant hoses and a few other hoses from the Throttle body. Remove the throttle cable and kick down cable from the throttle body. Remove any other electrical connectors from the throttle body. Remove the 8 or so bolts and remove the intake manifold.

Not to be an ass but this is a pretty remedial process up there with changing a battery. Why specifically is it so important that he remove the intake manifold.

Well my husband is having low idle problems while drivingand stalling while going and we ran across this post: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...manifold+cover

and decided to see if this works.

Gummed up intake anything is not real common. If it's only an idle type of issue is what you what to do is unhook the idle air control valve and see if it stabilizes and at what RPM. If it's Idling too high or at slight throttle rev's up and down constantly look for intake or vacuum leaks which on an older car are pretty common. It would help to know more about the exact symptoms is the car driveable or is it only an idle problem. Does they car accelerate like crap, drive fine once at speed, any hiccups etc. Is the check engine light on? any codes?

Well the symptoms are low idling when put in drive or reverse. But fine when just sitting, and sputtering while driving. He took off the throttle body and cleaned it and put it back on, it seemed to work good then but all the sudden it got worse and now it seems like it has no power, sputtering, seems like it wants to backfire, and the idle seems better but not where it should be.
My grandfather is saying replace fuel filter and pump what do u think about this? also the check engline is flashing. no codes yet. gonna check here in a few mins and will post updates.

Yeah if the CEL is flashing that would be the most important information to go on right now.

Those are number 1 and number 2 cylinder misfire codes. There are a ton of causes for misfires.

Have the spark plugs been checked or changed? Did this start suddenly or after adding fuel?

Hi, yes it had been idling low for sometime but started sputtering after filling the tank up. He has replaced the spark plugs and wires and all seems to be working GREAT now..thanks!
