2001 Rear Breaks Grinding sound

Wondering if you can point me in the right direction. My 2001 Corolla is making a grinding sound from the rear drum brakes. It was recently inspected by the dealer and they said that the brakes are good.

It seems like it is only noisy during the first 5-10 minutes of my trip.

The sound is not the normal sequel as I've heard with non OEM brakes.

Thanks!

When is the last time they were cleaned, lubed, and adjusted? Is it only when braking or rotational?

Check my DIY thread for a rear clean, lube, and adjust on a 9th Gen. Slightly different overall look but the principles and procedure are identical.

mine do the same thing. i have to adjust them every couple thousand miles. the star adjusters don't work correctly no matter how much i clean them. once adjusted, the brakes make no sound. they still work fine when making the grinding sound and it goes away after 5-10 miles, but it's a hidious noise when leaving the house in the morning. i've replaced shoes, hardware kit, lubed everything, etc. parking brake works fine although it needs a little llonger pull prior to adjustment. gonna adjust later today. i'll let you know if i find anything out of the ordinary.
