949 Racing makes some nice forged lug nuts. If you want more security pair them up with some McGard wheel locks. Just make sure you buy the proper seat lug nuts for your slipstreams.
did some research and i think acorn or coned lugs are best to use?
i checked into the 949 racing lugs and complaints come in how it scratches up gradually when changing out wheels. also they only come in black and although they are lightweight, in terms of rotational mass it has little effect as the weight is situated closer to the center and mounted on the hub. in other words i dont think weight is much a factor with lugs, but instead i want durability and mcgard is regarded as tough/durable. i was looking at this set on ebay for mcgard lugs and key for $90
Hey i have a 98 corolla and i put the str knock off bbs on, they're 17x7.5 with an offset of 40, and they fit on perfectly, i didnt have to roll my fenders at all, and my car is on the tein lowering springs, they look good, and ride great.

only thing they don't come with is valve stems which i could care less about since it comes with the mount and balance. anyone with experience with valve stems and if any difference other than cosmetics?

just got the rims, waiting on the lug set, and saving for the tires now. being that these are brand new and all, would it be wise to get additional clear coats on these prior to using them to prolong from chipping?

Just a few coats of wax and washing them regularly will go a long way. No need for additional clearcoat.
here's some pics of the rims on the car now. i gave it a good week of driving and i'm satisfied with them. the 1in larger rim size and going from 65 to 55 profile had me a little concerned about ride comfort, but i hardly noticed a difference. handling feels a little better and i can ride into my turns more smoothly. steering response is a little more sensitive and overall acceleration has improved slightly with these lightweights. the rear tires do rub just a little bit on the sidewall when the car does a big bounce.
one complaint is with the wheel gap as i included picture of the front and rear side view. i understand i could get lowering springs to even out the gap at the sacrifice of comfort and additional strut wear.
i had my eyes on the vogtland springs http://www.ebay.com/itm/310078968126...84.m1423.l2649. i know these wont even the gap but i've read good reviews for its price.
with my setup any recommendations for lowering with comfort/look in mind? i would probably settle with 1.4in in the front and 1in in the back. not wanting anything ridiculous but i would like it close to level in gap with price and comfort in mind. how much worse does the ride really get with any drop? do i need to worry about tire/wheel rubbing?

Most people (including myself) go for the Tein S-tech springs and new shocks!
are the kyb struts not good enough for lowering applications? does it help the ride comfort better to have the tein struts? aside from minimizing on cost, my main focus was to fix the gap but if it involves struts then i might as well wait till its strut replacing time and do it then.
i see the 1.9 drop in the front, 1.4 rear so i'm assuming this takes care of the gap. would these work with my wheels/tires without hitting the inside of the wheel well? i know that i would probably need to roll the rear sidewall. how long do the struts hold up afterwards? i've got around 70000 miles on the kyb's right now so not sure if i should just wait to change springs and struts.
