yeah not that I agree with toyota, but unless there was some law that an engine had to last x amount of miles they cant be held liable. Most engines need a rebuild around the time these start burning oil. It is known though that toyotas go upwards of 300k but thats just because in all other instances their engines are very high quality. Dont get me wrong I think it sux about the oil burning issue but these engines still last a long time compared to other vehicles.

There should be class actions on this issue, assuming what I'm told is correct, that it was a bad design.

NOT this one, when it was burning oil at 114k and is worse now at 144k.

It's an entry level car with 144K on the clock. At some point everything wears out. They aren't guaranteed forever.

In spite of some who believe that there is a Toyota god that makes every Toyota run forever, they wear out just like anything else.

I'm not asking for forever, but how about more than 114k miles before it needs an engine? I mean, really?

Toyotas are usually known for twice that or more, so am I asking too much? Really?

Apparently for this particular car... yes.

We all buy toyotas under the assumption that like most they go forever, so for the ones that dont we feel cheated.

COME ON guys! What car do you know of, that needs an engine rebuilt at 114k miles?! The old Soviet clunkers?

This isn't just an "oh well, hah hah..." situation for us, it will cost us thousands that we don't have! Thanks Toyota!

its not that I dont agree with what youre saying, my car has 207k and if it started burning oil now id be mad, but its not like theres an agreement on how many miles they should last before needing a rebuild. I do feel for you though

Thanks, but this is pretty abysmal for us. I haven't had a bad experience like this with Toyota since the 1980's, if I recall. Something about soft valve seats. I wouldn't touch Toyota for many years after that. If they want to do this, they can. I mean they could make a car with a 90 day warranty, and if the engine falls apart on day 91, too bad, but this is gonna hurt them with us! We no longer see Toyota as being any more reliable than a Soviet heaper.

You bought this entry level car WELL USED and have exactly no idea how abused it actually was in the first 110K or so miles... now you want to gripe because it's not perfect?

Buy an engine or sell the car. Man up.

That's just brilliant!

People here have already TOLD me that they screwed up the rings and piston design in these model years, so it looks like Toyota should "man up" and take responsibility for selling a crap design and model!
