Changing the belt is a piece of cake. All you need is a 19mm box end wrench and the new belt. The belt is held in by the tensioner pully. All you need to do is rotate the tensioner pully to loosen the belt. Remove the old belt then install the new belt.
I don't know if the Echo is the same but you can prolly find out at one of the Scion boards as the xA and xB have the same motor.
Thanks 2001rolla, thats pretty much my guess as to how its done, but the last tiem i tried such a job was on a 1987 crown vic and the tensioner never wanted to move off. im sure its straight forward on the rolla. i jsut need comforting lol
are you sure there isnt a special pulley wrench? i tried the 19mm and its way too big. plus the nut itself has an odd shape to it. its not hexagon, its round with a bunch of notches. at least i think thats the tensioner pulley.
there are only 2 dead pulleys i can see that arent A/C, alternator etc.

I will take a picture of it since I have my motor out and on the garage floor. This way you can see exactly what you need to do
Well never having done the belt on a Corolla I spent about 15 minutes doing it. It can be done under 10min for sure but there is time involved. I can see the dealer charging .5 hrs ($50-55) for this job or plus the cost of the part.
The guy at the counter who takes your order is time, so is the parts dept getting the part. 30 minutes is a fair charge IMO.
What I dont like about dealers is those $200-300 inspections to keep the warranty valid.
I tried to release the serpentine belt on my corolla 2000 VE by following the way you showed in the photo, but it is really hard to the move clockwise. What's wrong with it? Do I have to release the tensioner first? If yes, how to do it? BTW, the 19mm bolt is not a real one.

Thanks for your help!
Yes I know it is not a real bolt... It is there so the wrench has something to grab onto when you rotate the tensioner. If you are having trouble rotating the tensioner clockwise then the tesioner may be damaged or stuck...
If the tensioner is OK, the tension pully will not bounce back, after I rotate the tensioner clockwise, right? BTW, how to check if the tensioner is damaged or stuck?
I have a 96 rolla 1.6, I have 3 serpentine belts instead of 1, i changed the power steering and alternator fine, but i cant find a bolt or bracket anywhere for my a/c condensor, any ideas?
^Hey, how hard was it for your to change your power steering belt? I have the same car. I have little car knowledge but I can follow directions. I ordered a camry repair manual recently.
