Does the 5-year powertrain warranty cover rear wheel bearing?

I purchase my corolla in 2003, and till now has driven 30,000 miles. When I went to local dealer to do regular maintaince, they said they need to replace the rear wheel bearing, but this is not covered by warranty, they said only front wheel bearing is covered by 5 year warranty, the rear wheel bearing only 3 year warranty. I cannot find this information in my warranty manual. Does the 5-year powertrain warranty cover rear wheel bearing?
Thanks in advance.

BTW, the dealer would charge me more than $400 to replace the rear wheel bearing, it seems too expensive.

I can't find it in my warranty manual ether..I would call a couple different Toyota places to see if they differ...I just changed my drivers rear bearing/hub last summer, it was fairly easy and took me about an hour mainly because the hub was rusted in...Four easy to get at 12 mm bolts and the part cost me $85 from a local parts store here! Good luck

Need 03 rear wheel bearing help!

I would say it isn't covered, due to the fact that the car is front wheel drive - no connection between powertrain (engine/tranny) and rear wheels ... sorry...

For what it's worth I asked the same question and the Toyota dealer also said "no, it's not covered after the 30k warranty". I think this is a bunch of crap because there is no way in hell a bearing should go this early and it seems like bearings are a problem with Corolla's Mine went at 67K. I knew I should have got a Civic instead. I won't make this mistake again!

There was a TSB I found on the alldata.com site. I sure would like to know what it is in more detail but I don't have a sub.

That recall was just for certain 03 vin numbers, mine wasn't on the list but it was about the rear wheel bearing bolts might not have been torqued properly on some cars, I'm sure that wouldn't have made the "humming" sound! But my rear driver wheel did make a humming noise and it was a bad bearing not any loose bolts that caused it!

Hi, how did you get the rusted Hub out? I'm having the same problem.

Thanks,

Maybe. You might be doing rear wheel bearings on one of those also:

http://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/C...maturely.shtml

You can find an issue with every car out there. Those Honda owners say "never again". Go figure. Most Corollas AND Civics will go their whole lives without needing much work. Some won't. That's life.
