I love watching this guy on TV, I agree with him on this one too. I mean all you Toronto area people who watch his shows on CP24 will agree that he knows a lot about cars and they're reliability, he often backs most japanese brands and a few domestic models when people call in wondering what to buy based on reliability, etc.
At the moment Toyota reliability has slumped a lot! they seem to be riding on their previous reputation. :disappoin
Ford and Toyota are still worlds apart... Ever seen all the wires disconnect in a steering column because they did not have enough slack for the tilt? Ford has.
I have a spare 98 VE speedo that I fubared the EEPROM on. I'll figure out how to give it the right speedo signal and try to pump it up there and see what happens.
They wont make it a recall because the its not a safety issue and would cost more to recall them than to pay off any lawsuit or listen to ppl bitch about it. Stupid Profits
Guess what???? The Odometer does stop at 299,999!! Are you kidding me???? The local dealers and Toyota Canada are working on this earth shattering situation. I will let you know how it turns out.
The car is almost broken in. Oil level does not move between oil changes. A rock hit the front edge of the Drivers side rear quarter window and shattered it. I bought a new piece of glass from Toyota and glued it in. Saved $150.00 on the insurance deductible.
my 1994 VW GTI did something like that ... it went from 299,999 back to 0 :hammer: I was even ready and waiting to take a picture of 300,000 :disappoin
i have a 2003 with the same problem toyota will not take any responsibility for this so after buying 4 toyota corollas i said time to make a change and bought a honda accord . To bad for them because i was loyal to them and they were not .
This is a known problem with the 9'th Gen Corolla's. The only cure is an odometer replacement. I couldn't find the TSB, but I found an informative thread on the problem here:
So what happens when you go in for inspection? Mileage would not change. In PA, you would be exempt from emissions, and not pay for the emissions sticker.
could you switch it read in miles maybe? a mile is like twice as long as a silly killo-meter is, so it should take twice as long for the problem to occur right?
wonder if this happens to ones set to read miles at 299,999 miles?
It stayed right there at the 299,999 mark and never moved from there so I called Toyota Canada and asked them point blank how they plan on fixing this known problem. Toyota Canada said to call my dealer and see if they can help, so I did. They will be putting a complete new cluster in my car next week and the cost to me is 0.0 ..
What I was told is if you hit 299,999 before 5 years after purchase date then it's a free replacement but if you hit 299,999 after the 5 years you will only get the cluster and you have to install or pay the dealer to install.
Nice, How many things have you had to replace/repair in those 186,000 miles? Like has your alternator, radiator, steering, brakes/brake lines, water pump etc. etc. been replaced or had problems with? I'm at 101K and just wondering what I have to look forwards too...
Just hit me. 186k that's the distance to the moon isn't it, I hope you make it back...lol
My miles are straight highway miles so I won't encounter problems at the same miles as most. I just put my first set of plugs in 5000 k's ago, one fan belt, and other than the 5 speed tranny going at 220,000km's I havn't done squat to this car but drive it and make money. Oh and at over 300,000 (of coarse I can only confirm 299,999) I still have 45% of my front brakes and 60% of my rears. My engine purrrs with 0.0 noise and 0.0 oil consumption or leaks. I change my oil at 10,000 k's.
Do they program the new cluster with your correct miles? Or is another "same" cluster and you'll get another 299,000 KMs before you have the same problem again? I'm quite positive that nobody will put 599,998 KMs on their Corolla, but maybe...
