Angry 2003 Matrix XRS Clutch Issue

I am trying to sell my 2003 XRS with only 26000 miles. I had the clutch replaced at 10K and again at 26K and don't trust it again. I have driven standard Toyotas all my life (I am 45 years old) and the dealer is adament that this our fault and won't cover another clutch even with a 75K extended warranty. They replaced the second clutch under duress and it is still smelling, to the point it has potential buyers concerned. Any suggestions?

Did you replace it with an OEM clutch both times? A stronger aftermarket would have cured that the first time. It's unfortunate how weak the stock clutch is for this car. I can only see two things happening at this point which is both not in your favor...
1. sell at a lower asking price
2. swap out the clutch for a stronger aftermarket clutch and sell for the price you're asking for but not w/o dishing out more $ for parts/labor just to sell the darn thing.

Run a 'search. We've discussed this dreaded clutch a few times already.

How can I get back up information on the fact that there are indeed "weak stock" clutches? The delaer refuses to admit that there is a problem on there end...just our driving technique.

Here's a previous discussion about it - http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t62658.html

Get them to read this...all 8 pages of it. They can't deny there isn't anything wrong.

A lot of us are like you...mature drivers with plenty of manual driving under our belts.

Mistamatrix has the RSP, I'm not sure what kind but here's the web site anyway http://www.turboclutch.com/sport_toyot.html hopefully when he sees this he'll chime in .

Shea Dog, go read that web site mistamatrix posted up, the dealer should replace it under warranty; I know a guy in my area has his replaced under warranty...good luck with everything .

P.S. remember to be strong with them.

I had a 03 Matrix XRS 6 spd and I replaced the clutch at 25,000 miles with an ACT Heavy Duty Clutch w/ and ACT street disc. Worked like a charm. It worked so great that whenever i buy another manual vehicle I might just have to put in an ACT clutch before I drive.

Up to 9 pages now. At least it seems like the service-reps are beginning to recognize that there IS a problem.

We have over 36,000 miles on our 2003 XRs and have not had one bit of problems with the clutch. I am going to read through the other post just in case we do have problems down the road and I want the dealer to cover it. We do have the 75,000 mile extended warranty on the car.

I have been reading quite a bit about the clutch problems. I am looking to buy a Matrix in the near future and am wondering if I should stay away from the '03 or if it is the XRS that is the problem not the year. Any insite?
