XRS vs S?

Im new to Corolla's, so take it easy, lol.

I was looking at some Corolla's on the net, and I saw the XRS which has a pretty impressive 164HP engine and a 6-spd manual. But what im not clear on is why it's more powerful then the rest of the Corolla line-up which only has 126HP. The engine specs look the same online, so I was just wondering if it was the tranny that made the difference, or something else.

The XRS comes with the 2ZZ-GE engine (different from the standard 1ZZ-FE in regular Corollas) paired with a 6spd. manual which is shared with the Celica GT-S, Matrix XRS and is now used on the Lotus Elise & Exige.

It's definitely a step up from the S in terms of performance, too bad Toyota discontinued it for 2007.

I think this topic was just discussed a few days ago since there was another thread on this (and many times before).

In reality, 2ZZ-GE and 1ZZ-FE engines have only 1.8 liter displacement in common. Just about everything else is different.

XRS has been discontinued so you would not find a brand new one.

As a previous Corolla S owner turned XRS owner, it was definitely worth getting an XRS for the price since I cared for the extra sportiness, handling, 6 speed stick shift as well as the 170 HP at the cost of some comfort, gas mileage and premium gas.

Maybe this detailed review will be helpful for you:

My 2.5 year old XRS has 32,000 KM and I got offered 21,000 Canadian dollars by someone interested in getting it from me. Brand new, it was 27,000 CAD after taxes. That should give you an idea.

Thanks for the info, the engine specs online just said 1.8L DOHC, so I wasnt sure if it was actually the same engine or not.
