Hey, just picked up a brand new 07 corolla....just wondering if this is normal or if anyone else had this happen. When driving for extended periods of time and then coming to a complete stop or driving in heavy traffic, at idle, the engine makes a ticking/clicking noise only then, once the car moves it does not. It seems to be coming from the passenger side compartment. I think it comes from the passenger side engine compartment.
My '07 has what seems to be valve noise also -- and also, only at hot idle in neutral (5-speed). I only noticed it when my wife was sitting in the car with the A/C blasting (it was hot here!) and I went into the store for a minute...and heard the noise from the engine bay. Original poster, did you get a resolution to this? Like yours, mine's still under warranty, but if this is a "normal" noise, then I won't waste my time. It's awfully loud to be fuel injectors. I've never owned a 4-cylinder or a VVT engine before -- is it simply normal noise from this type of powertrain?
My car does the same. Its most likely oil filter knock due to a small filter. Try getting a bigger filter and make sure your oil is full. If that doesnt work it could be your PCV valve clicking.

Thanks. Oil is full, though I plan to change it anyway. German Castrol (0W-30) is my favorite, and it's on sale now at Pep Boys. What are the larger filter options for these cars? I've searched and have found various references to various Toyota engines (like 22RE), but not these in particular.
