I read a DTC P0031 on my Corolla 2005 (OXYGEN SENSOR HEATER CONTROL
CIRCUIT LOW (BANK 1 SENSOR 1)), no other DTC found. I have already inspected/replaced for the following:
1) MAF is OK.
2) Have new O2 sensor
3) Injectors working properly (steady click on idle)
4) PCV valve and hose are ok
5) Replaced with proper spark plugs and gap (0.043")
My problem started with P0171 but after changing the O2 sensor this DTC dissapeared and P0031 showed up, however, my engine struggles on idle.
Please, can anybody help me out??

Do you have code P0131 or not?
When did the P0301 code show up? After you changed the plugs? What kind of plugs did you use? Did you check all of your connections with your coil packs? What did you clean your MAF with?
Check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders, especially the coil packs.
I haven't tried that because I didn't see any difference when I changed them the first time. I replaced them with the proper plugs, denso iridium SK16R11 gap=0.043" as Toyota specs.

The problem started with P0171. I "fix" it replacing the O2 sensor.
After replacement, the P0171 disappeared but a new DTC showed up, the P0031.
There is a difference between old and new plug:
-Old is denso 89467
-New is denso 89465
I'm not sure what the difference is but they look the same. I'm stuck with P0031 now.
Any idea that could help me?

You were right on the money. I took it to my mechanic and there was a leak on the intake manifold. I heard a vacuum noise but I thought that was normal. Now the engine runs smooth, however, I don't know why but mileage seems to have gone little poor.
first of all p0171 is a system to lean code. the correct fix for it is a new updated intake manifold gasket not a 02. pm back
What's the difference in the updated gasket? what was wrong with the original? just curious ...my mom has a mystery p0171 ... so far, I've tried Marvel Mystery Oil treatment in gas tank to help clean the injectors. Also cleaned the MAF with electric cleaner. still got the code.

just take it to the dealership if its still under warranty. if not you can just buy the new intake gasket at the dealership. it will take less than 1 hour if you take your time. its a NEW UPDATED part.
